A collection of ten short nonfiction works in the public domain. The essays, speeches, news items and reports included in this collection were independently selected by the readers, and the topics encompass history, politics, philosophy, nature and religion. Included in this collection are ā€œThe Emanicpation Proclamationā€ and Second Inaugural Address of Abraham Lincoln, ā€œPrinicpal Doctrinesā€ by Epicurus, ā€œFox and Houndā€ and the preface to ā€œThe Breath of Lifeā€ both by John Burroughs, ā€œThe Wentworth Letterā€ by Joseph Smith, and ā€œThe Rhythm of Lifeā€ by Alice Meynell. From the New York Times, April 10, 1817 is an account of the Canadian capture of Vimy Ridge, ā€œHaig Strikes Near Arrasā€ and from the September 1921 issue of Vanity Fair an article on ā€œThe Flapper - A New Type.ā€ And for the those with more than a passing in the history of railways/roads, the ā€œReport of the Railway Department of the Board of Tradeā€ from February 1845 which impacted the ā€˜gauge warsā€™ of the mid-nineteenth century in England wraps up the list!
